Free Jazz in the Vines - The Mike Hammond Band
Mike Hammond returns to Joadja Estate on Sunday June 13 (1pm to 4pm) for 'Jazz in the Vines' with his 5-piece band and special guest vocalist Lou Bruce.
Expect to hear classic jazz standards, funky soul and a few well-known hits from this great band, featuring Mike on trumpet and saxophone, Joshua Barkwith on guitar, Stewart Harrison on piano, Steve Morrison on double bass and Steve Ley on drums.
Mike Hammond is a trumpeter, saxophonist and resident of the Southern Highlands who studied jazz at Sydney Conservatorium and has performed and recorded around Australia and the world.
Lou is a powerful and soulful singer with a voice refined over three decades. After supporting rock Legend Mick Fleetwood’s band Zoo at just 17, Lou went on to share the stage with Aussie music heavyweights The Emmanuel Brothers, Slim Dusty and Anne Kirkpatrick. Lou also worked regularly with the local legend, the late Geoff Harvey, and for the last 12 years has fronted Ella’s Holiday – a highly respected jazz/blues band based in the NSW Southern Highlands.
The Mike Hammond Band featuring Lou Bruce combine sophistication with relaxation, and play everything from swing to soul, so expect to hear classic jazz standards, funky soul-jazz from the Blue Note era, and the odd modern song performed with a jazz sensibility.
Joadja Estate will be serving wood-fired pizzas and cheese plates on the day, as well as offering free wine tastings in the cellar door.
Ms Pho Canteen will also be serving up fresh Vietnamese street foods.
Bring a picnic blanket, sip a vino among the vines and while away the afternoon listening to some top jazz tunes.
No bookings required.
